When water containing iron or manganese passes through the water treatment filter bed, birm media acts as an insoluble catalyst to enhance the reaction between dissolved oxygen and iron compounds and produces ferric hydroxide which precipitates and easily filtered by the iron removal softener water treatment plant. Periodic automatic time clock backwash flushes cut the accumulated iron and manganese in Softener Iron water treatment plant and the birm media bed is ready to perform its function.
